Maria Regina Soccer Captain Meghan Marcotte

Maria Regina soccer has won five straight CHSAA Bronx/Westchester titles and made it to the state semifinals last year. The goal this season is pretty obvious, and the expectations are definitely not something that the team and its captain are running from.

"It's a lot," says Meghan Marcotte. "But we practice no matter what and always get our laps in."
The preparation pays off at right forward whether she puts it into the net or her teammates. "I enjoy being part of the play making," says the senior.

As captain, the leadership role is only a slight adjustment as Maria Regina runs on respect and cooperation. "We all get along real well," says Meghan.

Coach Avila follows suit, and his long history in the game means he doesn't have to say much to get their attention. We're certain, she assures, "He knows what he's talking about."

The 7-0 record speaks for itself, but she knows that can change and staying positive when falling behind is always the way back. "You try 110% because anything can happen," she says.

A mind set that matters most when Maria Regina squares off against their arch rivals from Good Counsel Academy. Winning their first meeting 1-0, this day had her in high anticipation of the rematch. "I've been ready to play since I woke up," she says.

Of course, if they meet again in the finals, the eagerness will in no way wilt, and she and Maria Regina know they have history on their side.
